Express Entry

Express Entry – the system that manages how people with skilled work experience apply to immigrate to Canada.

There are 3 categories in the Economic Class applications for permanent residence:

●  Federal Skilled Worker Category

●  Federal Skilled Trades Category

●  Canadian Experience Class Category

Note that The Express Entry system is not a category of immigration to Canada, but rather it is a way of filing immigration applications. Instead of simply sending a completed immigration application to the relevant immigration office, potential applicants must first enter into a “pool” of potential applicants and wait to be invited to apply before they may submit their application.

In order to be able to register with the Express Entry system, the applicant must first qualify under one of the above three categories. If the applicant is not qualified under the relevant category, the profile will be rejected and they will not be registered in the Express Entry pool.

Candidates who are registered in the Express Pool will then be ranked against each other based on a point system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS will measure factors such as age, work experience, language skills, education, whether the candidate has a job offer, among other factors. A total of 1200 points are available, depending on the candidate’s qualifications.

Those with the highest CRS scores will be invited to apply for permanent residence when the immigration authorities hold their regular draws.

Once the invitation to apply is provided, the candidate will have 60 days to submit an online application for permanent residence.

Candidates can stay in the Express Entry pool for up to 12 months. If they have not received an invitation, they have to reapply .

Although it seems relatively easy and idiot proof to apply directly through the Express Entry System, the rules for determining what scores will be awarded are complicated and depend on various factors. Many online savvy applicants have scored lower points than they would have otherwise or found not eligible when they should be. We have helped many applicants dodge this successfully.
